SOUTH MAUI BEACHES
One of the number one reasons why guests choose to stay in the towns of South Maui is because of the beaches. South Maui beaches are ranked highly by guests, magazines, and many other institutions. Most of the South Maui Beaches have excellent facilities. They have picnic tables, showers, restrooms, and lifeguards. The resorts in South Maui front some of the top rated beaches in the world. In Kihei, the three Kamaole beaches are backdropped by many resorts. The fine sand and wide expanse of the beaches are perfect for lounging in the sun and going for a relaxing swim or snorkel. These beaches are frequented by guests and locals. Wailea has five crescent-shaped beaches. The most famous one would be Wailea Beach. This beach is quarter of a mile long and is made up of fine sand that stretches down to the water. This makes water entry easy. This beach can get crowded easily since there are plenty of resorts nearby.
There are also beaches that are not near resorts. Big Beach in Makena is an example of one. The name of this beach perfectly describes it. It is certainly big even by the standards of Maui beaches. The sand here is fine and it is perfect for lying down. Waves here can get big and the shore break is brutal. On days when the surf is high, you can see bodyboarders and surfers playing in the water. Most of those that brave the large waves during the South swells are very experienced and some make it look very easy, don’t be fooled by this and make sure you exercise caution when entering the water when there are waves, many unknowing beachgoers die here annually so remember the slogan “When in doubt, don’t go out”.
