Kihei is a fairly large area where a fairly large percentage of the local population calls home. The restaurants that are found in Kihei are mainly marketing towards the locals and not the visitors so the dining is not as fancy as other places on the island. If you are looking for top-notch you might want to head farther south to Wailea or Makena, if you are looking for deals then you should look into the Kihei restaurants.
Wailea restaurants are on par with the fine dining that is found in Kaanapali and Kapalua. If you are looking for a place to celebrate a special event then look no farther then the Wailea restaurants. Public parking is tough to find here but many of the restaurants at the resorts offer free validation or complimentary valet service.
Kahului restaurants are mainly for the local population of Kahului residents. There are some higher class options but most of the establishments serve simple, good food that comes in large portions. There is also a complete selection of fast food restaurants and big box supermarkets.
Wailuku restaurants are an eclectic selection of establishments that cater almost exclusively to local residents. The prices are reasonable, the food generally comes in large portions and there is somewhat of a variety of cuisines that can be found in the region. If you are looking for something good to eat and you are in the Wailuku or Waiehu area there are some good dining options available.
The food selection in Haiku is almost exclusively made up of restaurants that specialize in locally grown ingredients. There are a selection of restaurants that dot the region but the majority of establishments are centered around the Haiku Cannery. Most people do not expect to find much in Haiku and are pleasantly surprised by what they find when they eat here.
The Paia restaurant scene is the jewel of Maui’s north shore. You can find cuisine to fit all tastes and price ranges. Mama’s fish house is located on the Kuau coastlines and is considered by many to be “The Best Restaurant on Maui”. In addition to this, there are a variety of restaurants that are located in Paia town that can are also bound to please.
The Hana restaurant scene is fairly limited. This is unfortunate because with a harbor located right in town and a handful of farms within a ten-minute drive from the center of town there is a great deal of potential here. However, due to the small population and the majority of visitors who are simply passing through for the day, there is not enough demand to create a viable restaurant scene.
