KIHEI BEACH – MAI POINA OE LA U
Description of Mai Poina Oe Ia U: Mai Poina Oe Ia U is a beach located at the 5-mile marker in North Kihei. My family and I enjoy family get togethers here in the morning time before the winds start to pick up. There is a larger grassy area and some large trees which provide ample shade here. This particular beach is directly accross the street from the Kai Makani residential condominium complex, Kai Makani Condos for Sale here.
This beach has two different natures. It is usually calm and peaceful beach in the mornings and when the winds pick up during the afternoons, it becomes packed with windsurfers and spectators alike. It is a perfect place for a leisurely walk or a refreshing dip in the mornings. The waters here during early morning is usually flat and pretty calm. This makes it a favorite swimming place for the locals and we really enjoy taking our SUP boards out here. The entryway and bottom here are sandy so you don’t have to worry. With this, there is a reef about 30 yards off shore where waves will break during larger swell periods.
The Mai Poina Oe Ia U is also pretty large beach so it doesn’t feel too crowded. You might see a couple of people just lounging around or taking a stroll. During the afternoons the wind picks up and this place will attract windsurfers and kitesurfers. There will also be some spectators that will watch on the beach. During this time, this place will be jam-packed and you can see colorful windsurf sails in the horizon. If you are planning a picnic here, you can use the different facilities that the Mai Poina Oe Ia U has. There is street side parking on each side of South Kihei Rd. If you are bringing your kitesurfing and windsurfing gear or some coolers filled with drinks and food, you can park beside the road. There are also barbecue stations that you can use to prepare your food. The picnic tables here are perfect for a meal. All you need to do is lay out your things and you’re good to go.
