Kihei is one of the main population centers of Maui. This sunny beachside community is one of the most popular places for the people of Maui to call home. Generally speaking, the further south you move towards Wailea, the nicer the real estate gets and the higher the prices climb. The climate is relatively easy on homes compared to the harsh jungle weather you will find on the other side of the island. There are many variations between the different districts of Kihei and some care should be considered when selecting homes and condominium units.
“Kihei has been one of the fastest growing population centers of the island for decades. People love the consistent sunny weather and close proximity to many beaches.”
– Jeremy Stice, Realtor (B)

Kihei has some of the best beaches on the island. The long white sandy stretches are ideal for walking, fishing, snorkeling, surfing, bodyboarding or simply enjoying a sunset over the water. With many options to choose from the crowds are usually fairly dispersed and you can normally manage to find a bit of privacy of that is what you would like to have.
The Kihei restaurant spectrum of cuisines covers almost every kind of menu you can imagine. From your typical Hawaii menu items like poke or terriaki chicken, there are some good choices. There are also good options for more simple menu items like pizza, tacos or a burger and a beer.
The Kihei hotel selection is very good and you can normally find fantastic deals with the exception of peak seasons when most of the island is sold out. Kihei has plenty of properties to choose from that are right on or near the ocean. Most of the resorts are smaller than their counterparts in Wailea but the smaller feel is something that many visitors come back for year after year.
Things to do in Kihei
The best activities in Kihei all have to do with the ocean. The morning calm that you will typically find in Kihei is truly something special. If you wait too long to get to the ocean the winds will generally come up and the whole feel of the beach will completely change.
There are some great golf courses in the Kihei region of Maui. If you are going to be staying in Kihei when you visit Maui there are enough golf opportunities to keep you entertained for quite a while. Be warned, while the early bird rates will make you feel tempted to golf in the afternoons it is not nearly as nice is if you go in the mornings.
