Lahaina Beaches

The Lahaina Beaches are some of the most user-friendly, fun beaches to go to. The main reasons for this are because they are generally blocked by the wind and they almost all have an outer reef that protects them.

The word Lahaina translates to “Merciless Sun”. This is due to the fact that there is normally very little cloud cover and the mountain is positioned so it blocks the tradewinds which makes it feel much warmer than other places on the island. For beachgoers, this is a blessing because they ocean does not get the afternoon winds that plague the other parts of the island.

The other fantastic part of the Lahaina beaches are the outer reefs. Here you can find snorkeling opportunities when the waves are flat and surfing opportunities when the waves are happening. The other advantage of these outer reefs is they protect the shoreline from the waves. This makes for much more predictable shoreline conditions. However, all users should be aware that beaches that have reef can be dangerous if you are not careful. Make sure you stay in the sandy areas and watch out for submerged sections of coral when visiting the beach in Lahaina.
