East Maui Beaches

Looking for some good East Maui Beaches? There is good news and bad news. The good news is that there are some amazing beaches to choose from in East Maui. You can find idyllic beaches surrounded by dense tropical rainforest that are some of the most beautiful and picturesque places on the planet….. On a day with good weather.

 

However, there is not always good weather on this side of the island. The downside of a tropical rainforest is that there is quite a bit of rainy weather that you will find. There is a large percentage of days that are either rainy or very overcast. That being said, if you are lucky enough to visit any of the East Maui beaches on a day that has clear, the sunny weather then you are in for a treat.

 

A word of caution for beach visitors to East Maui. There are strong currents and large waves that can be found in this area that you will need to watch out for. Most of the East Maui beaches do not have lifeguards and you will need to exercise extreme caution when entering the ocean in this area.

Hana Beach – Waianapanapa Beach

Wainapanapa Beach is a beach in Hana that is famous for its black sand. The sand from this beach comes from lava rock wearing down over a number of years. Swimming here can be refreshing and the clarity of the water is great from snorkeling. However, only experienced snorkelers should do so since the waves here are pretty large. There are also caves with fresh water in the other part of the park. These offer a fresh water dip.

Hana Beach – Hana Bay Beach

The Hana Bay Beach is a protected cove in Maui’s Northern coast. This place is very popular with locals and tourists since it is the location of a couple of events. One example is the Canoe Regatta that signals the canoe season in Maui as open. There are amenities here that you can use. There’s a pavilion and Helene Hall. It is an ideal location for picnics, an outing or a fun day at the beach. Caution is advised since there is no life guard here.

Hana Beach – Hamoa Beach

Hamoa Beach is one of the top beaches in Maui. This one is a 1000 foot crescent of fine sand. You can snorkel here especially at the left of the cove. However, this beach is exposed to the open ocean so caution is advised. Always ask the life guards if it is safe to go into the water. There are restrooms available to the general public but additional amenities are available for Hotel Hana Maui guests.
